Slow Short CUt

D

Donald Jacobs

I have a hearts shortcut on my desktop. Recently when I invoke it the
program takes longer than usual to start. If I start the program from
the start>programs>games>heart route it come up fast. I've deleted the
shortcut and shut done the machine then reestablished the short cut.
BTW I am using WindowsXP with SP2.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong or how I can correct the problem of
slow response.

Thanks,

Try moving the shortcut to the taskbar and then try it ?

Two points:

1. You can *not* put shortcuts on the Task Bar. You are undoubtedly
thinking of the Quick Launch Bar. The Quick Launch Bar is not the Task
Bar itself, nor is it even part of the Task Bar. It is a separate
toolbar which, although it resides *on* the Task Bar by default, can
be dragged off it and displayed on another side of the screen by
itself.

2. I don't know what Donald's problem is nor how to correct it, but
I'm hard pressed to believe that whether the shortcut is on the
desktop or the Quick Launch Bar would make any difference in how long
it takes the target program to start. On the other hand, your
suggestion is quick and easy to try (and to reverse), so it doesn't
hurt to try it.

How do I do this. And is the task bar you mean what I usually call the
system tray?
