Can anyone tell me how I determine what is running under
all my programs? It takes an inordinate amount of time to
start up the computer and to start up any programs such as
Outlook and IE.

You can open task manager by pressing "ctrl-alt-del" keys
all at once. This will show what is running. Usually too
much stuff taking up resources, such as animated cursors
and and other "resident" software. Look in
Windows/Startup for un-necessary programs that have been
set up to run on boot-up. You can pull their icons out
onto the desktop, and put them back if you want to later.
After that, it gets harder; some programs start up
through the config.sys & win.ini files (I think I have
this right)and you have to have to have help from smart
people. (Some here but not me.) You can also look through
Start/control panel/add & remove programs, for programs
that you don't need and as a way to remove resident
software. There programs that address this problem too.
