slow right shift key

For all my programs, mainly MS, my right shift key is nearly always slow to
respond, like a few seconds. I am running Windows 2000 Pro, Office 2000 on a
factory built Dell Inspiron 8000. Any suggestions please?
 
If you have a problem with the right key and not the left, the problem is
likely to be hardware. Borrow another keyboard from somewhere (or plug your
keyboard into another computer) and check.
