Slow responses with remote desktop

I'm connecting from XP to Vista via the latest version of remote desktop on
my home network. For the most people it works fine. However, I notice very
often when I'm typing something, everything will pause and about 10 or more
seconds later, I see the action. This is making it difficult to use RD. I
only have two computers on my network. Is there anything that can be done
to prevent these pauses?

At work, I remote from XP into WinServer 2003 and haven't noticed these
pauses.

Here's what the home network boxes look like:

Vista: Intel E6600 Core2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 2 300GB HDs
XP: P4 3.4Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 80GB HD

Both machines connect wirelessly.

Thanks,
Brett

sure, on the experience tab, set it to connect at dial up speed. this will
disable all graphics etc. also, leave sound on the remote computer

Thanks. Once I started unchecking some of the options on the experience
tab, it automatically went to 28.8kps.
