Slow Remote Desktop on one machine

I have three machines on my home network, behind a linksys router. All
three on on different ports, and the linksys forwards to the
appropriate machine. Two work fine, but my new machine, a dual core
opteron guy, works less than optimally. It works for a few seconds,
then it freezes. Ten to thirty seconds later, it will work for a few
seconds. The other two machines work fine at the same time.

Any idea what the problem might be on this machine? The same firewall
and antivirus programs are on each machine (CA's EZArmor). It seems to
me that if it works it should continue working. Can I bump up the
priority of the remote desktop service?

Try watching the Process tab of Task Manager as the machine is used
remotely, and sort by CPU usage. This may give a useful clue.

Good idea. I'll try it from one machine to the bad guy while I sit
there and watch.

This can happen if the host machine uses a high-resolution
desktop background. It takes a lot of time to transmit it to
the client PC!

I think that all my machines are hi def and 1024*768. They share the
same monitor (kvm switch). Besides, I have RD set to use 256 colors.

But here's something weird. If I RD to another machine, and RD from
that one to the trouble boy, it works fine. It works better that way
than going directly in. So it has to be some sort of router issue. I'm
not using the external address going from on to the other, I'm using
192.168.

Well, if I can't figure it out, I have another router that I've been
meaning to install anyway.
