Slow pull down menu within the insert file dialog box

Why does the pull down menu take so long to respond within the insert file
dialog box? Has anyone had this problem with outlook 2003. When you try to
navigate to a folder to attach a document to an email it takes forever for
the pull down menu to appear. I have had it happen on my old PIII system
with windows 2000 pro as well as on my new P4 system and windows xp.
 
It can and usually does happen if the computer has disconnected mapped
drives. Either reconnect them or remove the mapping before attempting to
insert a file.

This may work but I would have to change my laptop connections evry time I
change locations and networks ie Home then at the office. There has to be a
better way. HELP
