Slow printing from DOS applications

Pat Norman

I am trying to troubleshoot a printing problem related to
running Lotus 1-2-3 (DOS based) under WinXP. The symptoms
are that printing is delayed by as much as 60 seconds or
more after issuing the print command. We have tried
setting the printer properties to print immediately, but
have not had any success yet in getting the printing to
occur normally.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I just found this solution on Bob Cerelli page, but did
not try it myself...

If you are experiencing slow printing for DOS programs
with Windows2000

Go Start | Run | Regedit
Click Hkey_Local_Machine
Click on System
Click CurrentControlSet
Click Control
Go to the bottom of this part of the list and click WOW
Click LPT timeout and change it to a 3

I am having similar problems with several DOS
applications. The interesting thing is that the symptoms
are different on different Windows XP machines.

I have the same DOS application installed on at least 25
XP machines. Some print just fine (same as in Win 95 or
Win98); some have a 60 second delay before a print job
begins to print; some start printing immediately, but
will pause for 30-60 seconds near the bottom of the first
page of output; and some will begin printing fairly
quickly but will print very slow (and I mean very slow).

Same application, all computers are WinXP, and all of
this variety of problems. There must be some
configuration difference between these different XP's.
That is the only way that I can explain the variety of
different symptoms. If it is a configuration issue, it
should be "fixable".

I will try Steve Cohen's fix, but I have my doubts that
this will fix all of my problems. I would appreciate any
feed back.
