Whenever I access a shared drive on my network it takes
forever even though our network is 100Mbps. This is the
case when accessing another XP pro machine or an old
Windows 2000 server.

Internet access is fine.

What could cause this?

Try to access you share folder from the run command as
follow
\\server Ip adress\share name, is it faster?

if yes I think the problem might be on naming resolution
