Slow Performance & More

I have the same problem as many of the other 'posters'. Slow performance,
with up to a minute lag time before any response by computer on almost any
task. I've done a complete virus scan as well as scanned for spyware. I've
found that the virus scan (Norton 2004) scanned almost 1.2 mil files - is
this normal? I've only added Quicken to the pre-installed programs. Also in
my Windows directory on c:, if have a list of 28 folders marked
"$NTUninstallQ309691$ (or similar - only the digits change) - any idea what
that maybe all about. Last, but not least, how can I tell whether SP2 has
been installed....I probably has, as I have the Automatic Update feature
enabled. Thanks in advance.

Norton will scan what ever files you have.
So if you have that many, it is normal.

Those "$NTUninstallQ309691$ (or similar - only the digits change)"
files are the uninstall files for the Windows Updates you have and can
be safely deleted:

You probably do not have SP-2.
To check:
Right click My Computer
Click Properties
Is "Service Pack 1" or "Service Pack 2" listed under System?

Also see this link for speed issues:
