slow performance after 10 min.

My computer goes slow ~10 minutes after I turn it on or restart. I checked for viruses and spyware using McAfee, Adaware, and spybot with updated patches and stuff. That didn't help. I checked for errors on the hard disk and there were none found. The hard disk wasn't fragmented either. One thing I noticed is a continous grumbling of the hard drive after the computer goes slow, like it's continously reading something. This problem started 2 days ago, when I was playing a game and noticed the slow lagging performance I was starting to get. Any ideas?

Sometimes running your virus software in the background all the time will
cause things to be slower than cold molasses.
