Slow peformance when right-clicking on icon

I am experiencing slow performance when right-clicking on
a file to access the properties. In some cases the
computer locks up altogether. I am running Windows 2000
Prof with SP4.
 
This problem has just occured for me also. Not a good
sign that this question has not been addressed/encountered
in the 9 days of your posting.

Having 10-15 sec delay on any file right click or Start
Menu right click.

Running Win2000 SP4
No known configuration changes or software installs since
last known good performance.
 
I've seen this problem before on certain types of files. I
found that these file extensions were associated with
networked applications. To correct the problem, just
remove these associations in the registry. To see the
complete list of associations, go in the registry
(HKCU\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.
...)
