Slow Outlook Startup - help?

I use MS Office Professional and have recently started using Outlook
as my mail client rather than Express. All my accounts are POP3
retrieval but Outlook takes an absolute age to fire up - the main
window appears minus icons and I get the 'Microsoft Outlook' programme
notice which hangs for at least a minute before disappearing and then
the inbox screen appears.

One it's done this it works perfectly - no error messages or anything
- just a very slow startup.

Can anyone advise what the problem may be and possible solutions?

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

Hi

I did as you suggested and renamed the file to outcmd.old

This hasn't remedied the problem and Outlook still takes an absolute
age to load up. Thanks for your help so far - can you hale further?

You still didn't say what version of Outlook you're using, but if it's OL
2002 or 2003, try disabling Messenger integration at the bottom of
Tools>Options>Other.
