Slow Opening Files in Word 2003

I have a user who is having problems opening documents in
both Word and Excel 2003. She tries to open them from
inside the application (using File> Open) and it takes
over a minute for the document to open. When she opens
them from the folder on her hard drive they open
instantly. She also never has this problem with Office
2000. Does any one have any ideas?

I also have the same problem - it eaffects any Office 2003 programme where you use the File open command and then select the drop down "look in" at which point it should give a list of the network drives. The system freezes for a minute or more, but then comes back to life at which point you can select a network drive - then the process happens all over again. - There is a knowledge base article 833041 that should cure it, but it doesn't

I've resorted to opening all files using explorer and dragging them into Excel or Word

I had no problem with Office Xp prior to this new install

I have exactly the same problem on two computers. I reinstalled Windows, in the beginning it looked as if the problem had dissapeared but now it starts again. Is there an answer?
