Slow Network Performance after upgrading to windows xp

Hello, my situation is this:
I have two computers connected to a Cisco PIX 501 device which connects them
via a vpn tunnel over a DSL line to our corporate network. The computers
were originally W2k, after upgrading them to XP users are complaining that
general network access has slowed down significantly. More specifically with
opening/editing documents on file servers, open other file types, etc.

Anyone seen this before?

I noticed that the Win XP Pro O/S ran very smooth for me until I installed
SP2. Service Pack 2 comes with a firewall that is turned on by default, as
well as turning up your security settings, not loading things as fasst, etc.
