Not directly a Windows XP question - and I apologize - but:

I recall there was an explanation/solution for the "slowdown" sometimes
experienced when navigating to a folder containing multiple PDF files on a
Windows XP machine.

Can someone kindly provide any insights - I do not recall the original
newsgroup where I came across this issue.

TIA

It is Adobe slowing you down. Uninstall it completely if you very seldom
use it just to read PDF files, and download and install the small app below.
It is free and very fast.

And its display is very inferior to that of Adobe.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, I do realize now that Adobe is what is making the navigation so slow. I
have been testing several other PDF readers actually - Sumatra, CoolPDF...
besides FoxIt.

None come close to the resolution offered by Adobe though.

But I see I have to make concessions somewhere!

Regards and thanks again.

Absolutely correct.

Maybe you should download one of the older - less bloated -versions.

Like 6.0

Actually I did try Version 6.1 - thanks for the suggestion though!

However, it would not open newer PDF documents stating that these were
created in a newer version of Acrobat and I should update the reader!!!

So I am back at square-A!

Regards and thanks again.

I've never had such an experience. The program might've suggested
that I update, but that's it.

Acting on local advice, I did find another alternative that I am trying out.

I used the portable free version at:
http://www.docu-track.com/downloads/users/

It seems to have better resolution than the others but I will do some more
experimenting before making a decision.

Regards.
