A new user with WinXP-Pro is experiencing a long delay at
Logon.

"Applying your personal settings." is displayed for over a
minute.

Other users, same workstation, no delay.

Are you using roaming profiles? Compare the profile sizes....

Not using roaming profiles.

Logon time has decreased to normal now that the Username &
Domain was added to the workstation in User Accounts by
the Admin.

Apparently the profile had been created on the workstation
by WinXP when the user logged-in to the Domain without
setting up the local profile first.

This usually indicates a DNS problem. Is the client PC pointing only to the
domain DNS server for address resolution?

Same answer as the one I gave to Branlon - check DNS settings. The client
should be looking at the domain DNS server and only the domain DNS server to
resolve names.

Hello

I have a nine station Windows 2003 Small Business Server network. All
work stations run Windows XP Pro. All work station computers were upgraded
from Win98. The Windows network recently replaced an ancient Novell 3.12
system.
All stations require a long time (several minutes) to log into the
network. The message "applying your personal settings" seems to go on
forever before the eventual log in.
Is this delay typically caused by a large user profile? Could this be the
result of the Windows XP upgrade? I have removed all of the Novell logon
files from the work stations.
