Slow Internet Explorer

I am using Windows XP,
Other users have no problem with their I.E.
Every time I click on any link, it takes about 40 seconds
for the page to appear and my pointer to return to normal.
It is reading the hard drive constantly. Like it is
trying to find something.
I have rechecked all my settings and that doesn't seem to
be the problem.
What else can I do?

Start by removing all the parasites on your computer.
Delete all the spywares and bad BHOs from your system.
