In that past 24 hours I've noticed an incredible slow
down in my pc. It all started yesterday when in the
middle of a game my computer (and broadband modem)
switched themselves off. After I rebooted I noticed that
launching programs and just performing simple things
(like right clicking to bring up a menu on a system tray
icon) take ages and in the case of games when they do run
they are very choppy, in gameplay and sound. At the time
when the problem occured I had my virus scanner disabled
but my firewall still active. All my drivers are up to
date and I have all the critical updates from windows
update, along with most of the non critical ones. The
computer I am running has a brand new motherboard, ram
and graphics card (all three less than a month old, Abit
K7N2 Delta, 512 MB pc 2700 DDR and a hercules Radeon
9600), the processor is about 18 months old (Athlon XP
2100+). Since yesterday I have repaired my windows
installation, defragmented, checked the disk for errors
and run a virus scan and still I have no luck. If anyone
can suggest anything I will be most grateful.
