Perhaps your having a contention problem, if the slowdown occurs while
Defender is not running a scan. What other real-time security programs (AV
and AS) do you have installed? You could try taking a look at Task Manager
(Cntrl+Alt+Delete) to see if any processes are noticeably burning up CPU
cycles. System Idle CPU should generally be in the upper 90s while nothing
else is going on in your system, meaning that there are plenty of spare
cycles left for processing. Also try turning off real-time protection
temporarily to test if that returns your system speed to normal.
slow how?
try downloading cccleaner at http://www.ccleaner.com/download
when you install it make sure you uncheck the Yahoo toolbar
once it loads uncheck Windows Defender but do check Temp Files
Then click on Analysis- once everything comes in then click "Clean"
Also give us some more info on what you consider slow.
Click on Alt/Ctrl/Delete and look at the cpu usage- see how high it is, if
it is over 10% and jumps to 75+ and stays there, then something is wrong.
After install have you tried to restart the computer?

I have never found that as long as you do not check everything on there. and
yes he should come back here and anyone in here can tell him what to check
or uncheck.
I should have made that more clear
