Slow browsing on 1Mb line.

Hello all.

I had my 1Mb Blueyonder (UK ISP) line installed during November of
last year. Download speeds have all been fine, usually around
115-120KB/s, however general web broswing seems slow at times.

I don't know how to best describe this but when I enter an address in
IE's address bar or click on a link, my P.C. seems to have a wee think
for a moment or so before responding. There isn't a great 5 second
pause, just a 1 second moment of thought or so.

My friend has a 1Mb NTL (Another UK ISP) line and doesn't seem to
encounter this pause so I'm wondering if anyone here has any ideas?

I'm confident that no adware, spyware or viruses are stealing my
bandwidth. I have performed a clean install of XP Pro & SP2, all
drivers are installed and generally the P.C. runs perfectly, apart
from the browsing.

The only settings that I have changed in IE are that I've dropped that
amount of space for temp. net files (to 1MB) & I've checked the box to
empty web pages once the browser is closed.

Sorry for the long post, trying to give as much info as possible.

My modem is a Motorola SURFboard SB5100 and is connected using the
Ethernet cable.

Many TIA.

My P.C. specs are follow;

Abit KV8 Pro 1.1 BIOS 1.7
