Seem to have a slow boot up, times from the Dual boot menu to the desktop
shows, its 1 min 8 sec..

Also seem to have problems with bootvi, it ends up not responding when saving
the Bin file..

P4 3.2g and 1gig ram Dual channel

2x Seagate 120gb HD on a None Raid onboard ATA controller..

I have a felling that the CPU is shutting down and over heating as it some
times shows 50c after a boot but drops down to 32-37c

Any clues..

Thanks

Boot time varies depending on what Startups & Watchdogs run. You
can use MSConfig.Exe to view the startup map. Network initialization
can also add significant time to startup. Certain Security Suites will add
services to your system that cause boot up to take longer.
50 Degrees C on an Intel is too warm. What kind of cooling does your
case have , Any extra intake/exhaust fans ? Proper installation of the
CPU fan (Contact/Paste) is essential to keep the CPU from overheating.
BootVis traces should be written out automatically. Your post isn't very
clear on any specific issue, so it's hard to know which one you need help
with.

first thing I do is to deletye the contents of the PREFETCH folder and reboot.
just the contents, not the folder.
when you uninstall programs, their entry in the prefetch folder is not automatically removed and the system is still looking for it on boot up.

Dual FAN PSU, Case Fans, one 120mm at the front and 2 x 80mm at the back,
normal mini tower case.

Standard Copper slug P4 fan heat sink with the Intel pad..

The 50C on the P4 is when its being driven hard, ie 100% and I get the same
results when doing any CPU heat or burn in tests..

Room temp at the time was 30C..

No Network just a Lan connected Cable modem.

Drive was defraged.

Managed to get a Bootvis trace but it shows the CPU not running for some 25
sec just after the start of the CPU trace..?

Thanks for the reply..

Had a Close look at the CPU boot usage, Few bit at Zero to 5 Sec then
nothing till 61 sec..

So what is going on during that time..?

Problem was caused by a CD Write connected but no power..

The MoBo IDE connectors do not have Hard Drives on them, they are connected to
the RAID/ATA Controller..

Now 26 sec from Dual boot menu to screen, bootvis will not save the file,
some thing about incorrect format etc..

I recently had a PSU blow up, a 420W PFC Thermaltake, I had to replace it
with a local 400W one, possible of similar grade, but as it has limited leads
I left a few thing disconnected..

Impossible to get a good PSU with more than a 1 year warrantee here..
