Slipstreamed WinXP CD using SP2

V

vj

Hi All,
I am trying to make a bootable CD of WinXP + SP2.
I followed the instructions on the websites
"http://www.winsupersite.com" (Paul's website) and

"http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm" where the
instructions are given in a

very clear and friendly manner. On these websites, there is also an
example (steps involved) of

how to burn the resulting CD (i.e. using image file etc) using NERO
Burning ROM 6-SE.

I successfully completed all the steps involved, apart from the last
stage of burning the CD.

Unfortunately, I don't have this particular version of Nero, instead I
have Nero StartSmart (not

sure what is the version, but this is what the shortcut on the desktop
says, and the original

Nero CD says on it "nero OEM SUITE").

I chose "Make Bootable CD" from the DATA menu in my version of Nero,
and got the message "Add

data to your disk, then click 'Next' to add image file from bootable
floppy disk". After doing

this, I don't get the option of selecting the desired image file which
was created by following

the Slipstreaming steps prior to CD burning. Instead, I get two
options, one "from a bootable

floppy disk", other "Use standard disk image". I tried to do it using
first option by copying

first the image file to floppy, and also the second option. The
resulting CD was not able to

boot, instead went to some DOS mode.

Can someone please tell me the step-by-step instructions for doing the
needful using this

version of Nero? All other instruction before this (i.e. extracting SP2
and merging with XP etc)

are all clear to me.
Thanks

Find, download, install and use AutoStreamer.
It'll make an ISO image you can burn.

Nero Start Smart = The fifth icon or second from last, _copy and backup_,
Choose _Burn image to disc_

If you have Nero SmartStart, You have Nero Burning Rom.
Start Nero SmartStart, on the left is a menu item "applications", click on
the down arrows,
the first item is Nero Burning Rom. Click on Nero Burning Rom and then
follow the instructions you got from winsupersite.com.

Maybe these are stupid questions, BUT (it won't be my first):
1. Do I need to be RUNNING XP already to create the slipstreamed CD ?
2. Will it work on the UPGRADE CD also ?

I am running Windows 2000 and bought the UPGRADE to XP Pro. I'm about to install XP pro and am not going to upgrade from 2000, but
(I'm told) when I get to the license question, I'm gonna insert my Full version of Win98 CD to get through the upgrade". RIGHT ?

I followed the instructions at
http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm . I used isobbuster to copy the Cd. I unzipped SP2 into a folder and it went
OK until I tried to apply the service pack:

'The command to apply the Service Pack is: " C:\XP-SP2\i386\Update\Update.exe -S:C:\XP" '

Do I need to be running XP to run that command ? If so - that's my problem. 'Nuf said.
If not, I get this message: "update.exe generated errors and is being closed by Windows .. an errorlog is being generated". Event
viewer shows nothing. Where's the error file ?

Thanks,
Bobb

I deleted all the temp stuff and reran the cmd line - get the error
I found it in a search - it's a drwatson.log file. Problem is:

Application exception occurred:
App: (pid=900)
When: 4/23/2002 @ 19:09:57.566
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

Now what ?

They are not stupid questions, but I'm confused about why you want to
slipstream SP2. Any version of XP that you would buy today - Home, Pro,
retail, upgrade, OEM - would already have SP2 in it. You don't need to
slipstream anything. Service Pack 2 has been out since August of 2004,
over a year now.

You already have Win2K installed. If you are just going to do an upgrade
install, then stick the XP cd in the drive, reboot, and start the XP
install. It will see Win2k and that is your qualifying operating
system. You don't need to show it a Win98 disk.

If you are going to do a clean install, boot with the XP cd and delete
the partition, create the partition, format the drive, start the
install. When the XP installation doesn't see a qualifying OS on the
drive, it will ask you to put in a cd for one. That's when you can put
in the Win2k cd (or a Win98 cd, it doesn't matter).

reason for doing this is
1. to do it and
2. I bought this upgrade last christmas ( CompUSA on Black Friday2004 - was $129 ) and I JUST now opened the box - so it existed
before SP2 was released this past summer.

Locate, download, install and use AutoStreamer. This automates the process of
creating a ISO image file which has the XP with SP2 "merged." Then, just use
your enhanced CD writing utilities (not XP native creation tools!)
