slightly OT: problems with new video card (GeForce FX5600)...

I've just upgraded my video card to a XFX GeForce FX5600. All went well
except that none of my games will work, in fact everytime I try to run them
my computer locksup (the screen goes black or the game's splash screen pops
up). The games I have tried are: Medal Of Honor, Unreal Tournament 2003,
Call of Duty, and the new Prince of Persia.
I've tried a variety of the nVidia drivers (completely uninstalling the old
ones first), different versions of DirectX, I've tried reinstalling a couple
of the games and even went as far as reinstalling the OS.

I'm under the assumption that the card is defective but thought I would see
if anyone might have any suggestions.

TIA,

Greg

Are you overclocking any part of your system? Cpu, memory, etc?
If so, set everything to default speed and try again.

Also, if the card requires a separate power connector make sure
you have one plugged in.

No, nothing is overclocked and there is not a seperate power connector.

Out of curiousity I restored one of my WinXP images and configured the card.
Every thing works fine.
And something else I just noticed: the card is identical in appearance to a
Pine FX5600 card that I had tried not too long ago. Everything worked fine
(on Win2k) on that card except the fan was very noisy so I returned it. The
XFX card is part of the Pine company so I'm assuming the card is identical
except for the marketing. So there's something in Win2k that it's not
liking. Strange.

Thanks.

ok....too weird. I rebooted back into Win2k but forgot to swap back my old
card (GeForce 2 MX). The new card was detected and (I'm assuming) used a
driver from the last install. Everything seems to be running now. Very
strange.....
