howdy all,

I'm trying to run a portal on a FP subweb, and have it mostly running except with a few issues that I suspect are permissions related.

I have the db folder set with write permissions and that works ok.
But there are other features (like uploads) that require write permissions too, so I set that folder for write permssions and ..now.. that works ok.

But there are a few other features that the install instructions say need write permissions on the root - would the root be the real root or the subweb's root?

**Would there be a problem if I just made the entire subweb have write permissions?

I'm trying to solve a FSO issue - where objects are not created and varibles "not set". I'm thinking that by the instructions saying root may mean the root of the subweb in my case????? (the instructions most likely assume the portal to be installed in the root root)

Hope this makes sense, this has got me going round and round.

TIA,

Rob

The might be better handle in the appropriate server newsgroup or with the author of the
application.

I think the root in this case would be the subweb, however when working with the FSO, you have to
use the actual path on the server to the folder, such as e:\webs\site\subweb, etc.

if the instructions want write permissions it can only be to files relevant
to what you're doing (the subweb)

I wouldn't set the whole subweb as "writable", it just don't sound right.
;-)

what app is it?

its the one you started helping me with, SooP Portal (with WWF)

I ended up NOT setting write permissions on the entire subweb. I set it just for the db folder and for the uploads folder (turned out I had the uploads set for write but I put that folder in the wrong place ... DUH)

Anyway, its working about 90% now

if you rig up the db using the tools/ web settings/... you won't have to set
the permissions for the db as fp will do it for you. same thing for writing
to a text file, just have a form with no input on it, configure the form to
save it's input to the plain text file (which will never happen) and
FrontPage will let you write to a file w/o setting permissions.
