Slightly OT: Canon i560 rebate question

I purchased a Canon i560 printer (not the i560s, but the i560) from
amazon in December. This printer qualified for the advertised $30
rebate then in effect for that printer and purchase date.

Although I mailed the rebate paperwork and documentation in to Canon
on January 20, I just checked their rebate status page
(http://canon.rebatestatus.com) today - 12 days later - and there's no
record of my rebate information being received. Should I be worried?

The rebate paperwork said to allow eight weeks for delivery of rebate,
but I'd think they'd at least have a record of my paperwork being
there by now.

Be patient. Between the US mail and fullfillment house processing
time, it usually take 2-3 weeks for an online status to appear.

Indeed be patient. In addition, I rarely receive rebates in the advertised
time.
I think the fullfilment houses figure many people will forget about the
rebate.
I usually have to call the phone # on the rebate form and then get it a few
days later.
After all, it really should take less than two weeks.

My 2 cents

I would also be skeptical. One out of eight rebates that I've sent never (I
call eventually) get responded too. Calling them would eventually fix
things. You should at the very least contact them after 10 months. They do
take forever to process stuff so you have to be patient.

Every rebate I've ever sent in I've received. Some have taken 6 months even
though the promotion claimed 6 to 8 weeks, but I did get them.

There's several reasons why they take forever. Invested money earns
interest, so long rebate payouts result in more interest earned for the
vendor. Also, most companies and their creditors are very short sighted with
finances and profits and don't think much about the long term, so not paying
rebates immediately results in better numbers for the current period.
