Slightly off topic question on site registration

I have a classical music site, and don't know how to go about registering it with search engines
Theres no money involved so I can't afford the annual hundreds of dollars in fees. I trie
the Yahoo "suggest a site" but its been 6 weeks and so far we don't show up. Can anyon
point me in the right direction

Google is quicker under a week, but you don't submit for Goog.

I once sent the urlof my site into Google through their search toolbar, and
I don't know whether that's the reason, but I sometimes see my pages listed
on Google. I did not pay anything.

I believe some search engines have "web crawlers" that contact ISP's for web
pages (i.e. user/member pages) to list on their search engines - so you might end
up on a dozen or two without realising - like being in the phonebook - that is
automatic unless you request a silent number from your phone company, so with
site engines I don't know how you "Delist" yourself but the idea would of course
to be on as many as possible so people know your site exists, and therefore
generates visits.

I shoulda phrased that better...you don't *have* to submit with google.
