I set up a powerpoint file by inserting photoalbum. After doing that I
wanted to compress the pics but when I right clicked the only option was
"format object" - it wasn't a picture but just a box (essentially). The
problem is now I cannot compress the pics so the file is huge.

Any suggestions? There are 178 pics so I prefer not to individually reduce
each of their file sizes.

In your Picture Tool Bar (appears when a picture is selected) you'll find
your compression tool (its a picture with 4 arrows pointing in at each of the
corners). Does this work for you?

If you need even more compression try NXPlite. Let me know which worked for
you.

If you have a version of PPT prior to 2002, you won't have the Compress Picture
feature. In that case, have a look here:

Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?

The picture toolbar isn't an option because the program doesn't recognize
them as pictures but as objects.

I'll try NXPLite.

The Photoalbum in 2002 and later does not import images as picture shapes.
It applies a picture background to a autoshape. That's why you cannot crop
or treated the imported shape as a picture.
