Look for the "Show formatting" button. It's an icon on the toolbar that has
two "A's" on it, one small, one large. Click on it. Voila! It's a toggle
button. Click once and it's off. Click again and it's on.

How do I get the slide sorter view to show the slides? All I see are
I'm having the same problem. Can you please tell me how to access the "Show
formatting button?" in PPT 2007 from the slide sorter view, (home tab) I am
not able to click on the Aa button. This button says that it is for changing
the case of font. The only other button with two a's that I see is for "clear
all formatting". Neither of these options seem right, and neither are
available for "clicking".
You will need to add it to the Quick Access Toolbar: Office button ->
powerpoint options -> customise -> 'choose commands from' all commands ->
find & highlight 'show text formatting -> click add.
