Slide designs from Powerpoint 2003

How do I retain the slide design of slides created in power point 2003 when I
cut and paste them into Power point 2007? I like the OLD design better,
worked hard to get it loking just as I wanted.
I do not want to lose ithe design when I cut and paste it into a new
presentation in power point 2007.

JM,
When you paste into PPT 2007 there should be a tiny little icon (Paste
options) which allows you to retain the formatting of the PPT 2003 file or
follow the target presentation. You can quite easily miss it. Does that work
for you?

I am not getting any options when I paste - just "paste" - not other llittle
icons at all. Very frustrating.

It should be there, when you paste in the pane on your lefthand side. Right
beneath the pasted slide(s). You will see the icon in slide sorter mode too.
Do check Tools - Options - Edit tab - at the top next to show paste options
is there a check, if not check it.

Greetings, again, Luc,
I cannot find the items you suggest, IN the pane on the lefthand side,
there is nothing but the run of slides. Nothing further below them anywhere
either in the pane itself on in any section below that pane.

I canot find "tools" anywhere either. I have looked under all the
headings: Home, Insert, Design, Animations, Slide Show, Review and View. No
"tools" anywhere.

In slide sorter mode, I only have the series of slides. Nothing else to
click on.

"Paste special" under "Home" gives me nothing of interest.

It is as if we are looking at different programs. I have PPT 2007.
Help, please.

In PPT 2007 you should go to Office-button, Options for PowerPoint, then I
think View category on your left, the paste options should be there
somewhere. Cannot test it here, as I do not have PPT 2007 on this computer.
That said, when you paste either in normal view in the lefthand pane, or in
slidesorter view the little icon should appear.
As an alternative you could use Insert slides from file, in PPT 2007 I think
you can find it on the Home tab, New slide, at the bottom reuse slides, a
task pane opens
Browse for your file select slide(s) and insert. Be sure to check the Keep
source formatting box at the bottom of the pane. Remember this is all from
memory so you may have to troubleshoot.

Definitely odd.

I once had an add-in installed, IIRC, it was one that let you specify a
default slide layout other than the typical title+bulleted text slide, and
it made the paste options button not show. I think maybe it was because when
you pasted in the slide, it applied the layout immediately (or something
like that -- I can't even remember exactly how it worked now), so the paste
options button went away.

Of course, as a user, I didn't see any of this -- I just knew I was supposed
to have a Paste Options button, but it wasn't there! lol I figured out the
problem add-in by uninstalling them all and adding them back one-by-one.

Anyway, sorry to butt in -- I just figured since I have 2007 open right now,
I could double-check the location in PPT Options. And then I realized JM
had found it already! ( lol @ self)

Still no sign of any "paste options" buttin when I do the cut and paste
process.

But, using the "re-use slide" process, I was able to import the slide with
the old format. A cumbersome process, but at least it works.

Whatever happened to the good old "help" icon that always used to lead one
to the help index? I am lost without it in the new MS program. Seems to
take a lot fo time if one has to wait till one goes online to then come to
this support group.

I appreciate all the help and time. Still not working, though. This is
what
I get when I follow the steps:

First suggestion:
I go to the Office Button, then PPT options. Then I have a long list
of
options, but not "View." I selected "advanced" (which I already
looked
at
last night). Under "Cut, Copy, Paste" (I am assuming that is what you
meant?) both "use smart cut and paste" and "Show paste options
buttons"
are selected, and they already had been last night when I wrote you.
However, when I go to paste a slide into the slide show or into the
side
bar,
no additional choices appear.

I tried your other option--using Insert ->Picture and it did not
work
either. I clicked my way to the folder in which I had the slide show.
It
only showed the title slide from the show. I nonetheless clicked on
that
slide and got an error message.

Would it make any difference if I were in "compatability mode" ? I
have
tried switching in and out of that (compatibility mode is my default
mode)
but that has not made any difference that I can see.

Sorry I gave the commands in PPT 2003.
In PPT 2007 you should go to Office-button, Options for PowerPoint,
then I
think View category on your left, the paste options should be there
somewhere. Cannot test it here, as I do not have PPT 2007 on this
computer.
That said, when you paste either in normal view in the lefthand
pane,
or
in
slidesorter view the little icon should appear.
As an alternative you could use Insert slides from file, in PPT
2007 I
think
you can find it on the Home tab, New slide, at the bottom reuse
slides, a
task pane opens
Browse for your file select slide(s) and insert. Be sure to check
the
Keep
source formatting box at the bottom of the pane. Remember this is
all
from
memory so you may have to troubleshoot.

aaaah - OK - do see it now.....

JM,
Are you referring to the little blue Question mark icon? It is still there,
just beneath the red x for closing the program.
Don't say you do not see that one either.

Still no sign of any "paste options" buttin when I do the cut and paste

But, using the "re-use slide" process, I was able to import the slide with
the old format. A cumbersome process, but at least it works.

Whatever happened to the good old "help" icon that always used to lead one
to the help index? I am lost without it in the new MS program. Seems to
take a lot fo time if one has to wait till one goes online to then come to
this support group.

I knew there was something wrong with the view thing. But no matter,
you're
here to pick up the missing pieces. Odd thing though the button no
showing
up. Although you can miss it easily, being so tiny.

I didn't see Luc mention Insert | Picture. He suggested Home tab | New

Oh, sorry again. I just re-read your post, and it seems you did find
that,
and these were already selected. In that case, the Paste Options button
where you can opt to "keep source formatting" should show up
immediately
after you paste in a slide. It could be that you have an add-in or
something that suppresses this, though.

Since it's not showing up, you'll want to use the Reuse Slides option
so
you can tick the "keep source formatting" box. (This used to be called
"Insert Slides From File" in previous versions, but you definitely
don't
want to use "Insert Picture.")

How do I retain the slide design of slides created in power point 2003 when I
cut and paste them into Power point 2007?  I like the OLD design better,
worked hard to get it loking just as I wanted.
I do not want to lose ithe design when I cut and paste it into a new
presentation in power point 2007.  

How about burning your PowerPoint2003 to DVD.
The final output will retain all subtleties from the original
presentation.
