SLI video card

I am going to buy a 8800GTS card. There is a power socket on the card. If I
only use one card do I need to use a psu that has such a dedicated output
for the video card?

Also, some psu has 8pin 12V output, what is it used for?

The 8pin aux MB plug is for some of the newer overclocking friendly MBs like
the P5N32 E SLI and Striker Extreme Asus boards and several others. It just
adds redundant 12v power (some PSUs actually feed it from seperate 12v
rails). The 8800 GTS usually comes with an adapter that uses two 12v molex
into one 6pin video card connector. If you have an SLI compatible PSU it
usually has 4 X 6pin video card connectors for two 8800 GTX cards which have
2 plugs each. Make sure your PSU is up to the task.
