Sleep causes program to end

When I activate sleep, my aol instant messenger logs off while other programs
keep running. How can I fix it so that aol instant messenger keeps running,
too?
 
When your computer went into sleepmode your network card is off as well.
When there are no network connection Aol messenger will be offline or logs
off.
