Slave hard drive not accessible

I transfered a slave hard drive from one computer to another but now when I
try to access it, I'm told I have to format it. There is a large amount of
information in this hard drive and I would really like to get at it. I was
told that this is probably due to the old computer having xp pro and my new
one having xp home.
Is there any way to access the files I have on the slave drive? I really
don't want to format and lose it all

I have absolutely no clue if they were EFS. Apparently I really hope they
weren't!
