Hi,
I'm thinking of upgarding my pc...
What is best the sKt 754 or the 939 pin 64 bit motherboards.
I was looking at the MSI K8N neo2 platinum motherboard in a 754pin and i
noticed they also do what seems to be the same motherboard but in a 939pin
What on is the best.
thanks for any input on this.

939-pin Athlon 64s are the newer ones, and the "wave of the future".

As for "which one is best", the 754-pin ones do a perfectly good job, there
is nothing *wrong* with them. Are you building a machine for the future
where its worth spending a bit of extra money now for the possible future
expansion ability, or is saving money your absolute priority and future
expansion doesn't matter?

Hi Robert
I'm building a machine that i want to be the best...
money is important but i only want to buy it once so i would rather spend a
bit more now so it keeps me at the cutting edge for a bit longer, if you see
what i mean.
Do you know when the xp 64bit will be realest. Have you tried it. Shame i
didnt get a chance to do the beta testing.
Thanks for your help.

XP64 has been released to manufacturing. It will be available as an OEM
product only IE with new systems or eligible purchases, so check out all PCI
cards etc. for drivers as some have found their favourite card is not going
to be supported.

939pin Winchester core is the way to go PR3500+ is the sweet spot at the
moment. Dual core CPU's will be available some time this year so will make
for a brilliant upgrade path. It has been stated that all that is needed for
a current 939 pin mobo to support a dual core CPU will be a BIOS update.

A related issue - if you may go down that path, PSU wattage requirements
need checking, and room for a better CPU cooler. I suggest you hike on over
to say www.anandtech.com or www.tomshardware.com or use google to get some
early info so that you have a large enough case and a powerful enough PSU...

Regards & Best of "Luck".

Glad to hear someone say that. All too often people cut corners and pay for
it. I can't think of anything else to add to the fantastic advice from
"Mercury", except to emphasise their comment on checking driver support if
you want to run 64 bit, and my advice might be to wait a bit to do that or
consider a dual boot system, as there will be stuff that just won't work
right for a little while. Now I admit to being one of the worse gadget
freaks I know, but the reason its called the "cutting edge" is because it
can make you bleed if you get too close to it... if you see what I mean.
