sizing pics as a percent

This works for the windows of our site but not for the content of the windows. i.e.. we can put the pictures in a table so that the window (the cell) they are in increases or decreases with the resolution, the picture still remains the same size

Here's a question to ask

I am using several pictures in my web site. In trying to set the picture size to be a "percent" of the screen there seems to be no way to maintain the aspect ratio. What looks good on my screen can be horribly distorted on some one else's computer. Is there any way to maintain the aspect ratio when choosing to size pictures in percent

If you can submit this question it would really improve the look of the site. (If there is any way to do it)

Why would you want to do any of this? I don't get the
purpose/functionality/advantage of sizing a picture as a
percent of the screen.

The nature of raster images is that they are one size and
one resolution. Using a web browser to resize/resample is
going to produce bad results...period. I find the
automatic sizing in IE6 to be nothing other than annoying.

Try thumbnails. You might want to go into fancy-dancy
javascript sniffer stuff to direct users to a page based
on their browser/screen size and make different versions
of the same image.

Try setting the width only.

Your images must be totally prepared before you IMPORT them into your site.
