Size of desktop icons

A friend says his desktop icons are smaller than they were. He went to
Display - Appearance - Effects, and there was already a check mark in Use
Large Icons. Anything else he can try?

Uncheck, apply, check, apply.
Also check the screen resolution.
Also - mess with the Font Size.

Right click on the desktop and goto Properties
then Appearance
then Advanced
then Item
select Icon then fix a larger than standard (32) size
 
font size has nothing to do with icon size!

font size has nothing to do with icon size!

While you are correct in the strictest sense - in the way in which these
settings are applied in Windows - it can (and does) make a difference in
instant appearance vs that after rebooting. Changing the Font Size from
Normal to Extra Large at the same time you are messing with the icon size in
the same area can have some strange affects - and the true implications may
not be seen until after a reboot.
