SiS AGP to PCI Windows Update and Aero and Headache

My very quick config:
Windows Vista Ultimate
HiS ATI X1650 Pro 512 meg
1.5 gig memory
Monitor is an older Dell 21" UltraScan P1110

After suffering from the Error 43 thing for several months, the other day (Dec 15), Windows Update
lists a "SiS Driver update for [AGP]". Of course, I installed it, then reinstalled the newest ATI display
drivers, and finally I see Aero working for the first time, for about 8 minutes.

Now what happens is everything seems fine, but then the display will click over to a slightly differant
resolution, or just click over to something else, which I think is another refresh rate. After doing this
a few times, the monitor will just fill with some random, striped colour, and it will say something
like 'Monitor is working. Switch to another frequency'. Sorry, not exactly that, but something like that.
I should have written it down. When it does this, I have no way of switching back, and must
force a reboot, and start the process over again. At least it gave me enough time to go back to the
default VGA display driver.

Before I switched back to the old display driver, I switched the Dell P1110 monitor driver to the
default monitor driver and that seemed to make it last a little longer before it went nuts again.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do to get things working?

Anymore info needed, just ask. And thanks for any support on this issue.

When you say the latest ATI drivers do you mean the Vista Beta drivers
posted at ATI last week 12/13?

Sorry, yes it was the Dec 13 update. Had my date wrong below.

Today, I uninstalled the ATI display driver (left ATI CCC installed for
now), and the Dell P1110 monitor driver. I reinstalled the display driver,
and it seemed to be running fine for about 2 hours, then it did as I
discribed below again. Upon reboot, the BSOD crash prevention window popped
open shortly after logging back in, here's what it displays:

Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 100000ea
BCP1: 859C9748
BCP2: 00000000
BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

I really have no idea where to start with that. I will look at the log files
a little later to see if there is anything that might help with this new
error.

I don't normally have a problem with clicking the 'Check for solution'
button, just to see if I actually get any useful info from it for once. Last
time I clicked while sorting out this particular problem, it blue screen
after hunting for a few minutes.

Right now I have restarted and am running with Classic theme instead of Aero.

There has been anew RV530LE wanting to update the last couple weeks now, but
I've been paranoid. After installing the newest Catalyst and ATI drivers, it
screwed things up so badly from crashing, I had to do a fresh install.
Restore points were corrupt as well, although they used to work great. Maybe
I will try this weekend with the current RV530LE.

Thanks.
