Since power outage, outlook freezes

Last night the power went out, and my Outlook 2000 was
open when it happened. Since then, I can't get it to
open. It starts to open, but doesn't get completely
opened, and then it's just stuck in hourglass mode. If I
control alt delete, it says not responding, when I tell it
to shut the program, it doesn't do it right away, and then
freezes up completely, going to blue screen. There was
one time where it shut down, and my desktop came back up,
but usually I get the blue screen. Any ideas? When I try
to use system tools it tells me I have to have the program
open to work on it, so that doesn't help. If I reinstall
Outlook, will my .pst file remain untouched?

Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I have now reinstalled Outlook, but continue to have the
same problem. My .pst file still exists, I checked that.
Is there a possibility that when the power went out, it
was moved to a different folder, so Outlook keeps looking
for it and not finding it? It's in the Windows/local
settings/application data/microsoft/outlook folder.

I see a lot of problems with responses in this newsgroup,
but it seems that messages about freezing on opening don't
get responded to. I hope that pattern stops here, I need
to be able to use my e-mail.

Not a chance.
It's in the Windows/local
settings/application data/microsoft/outlook folder.

Windows 98, eh? This is the normal location for the PST on a Windows 98
system. Try renaming or deleting the file outcmd.dat.
