Since outlook update, send/receive button won't work

Last week I had a notification that there were updates for my
computer(running windows XP). This notification showed up in my tray at the
lower right side of screen. Since that time outlook(Office XP) will not
recognize a click on the send/receive button. Any other people having this
problem or know how to correct?

What was the update you installed? Does mail send and not receive or does
mail receive but not send or both? DO messages remain in your Outlbox? Do
they transfer from the Outbok to Sent Items? Please supply some diagnostic
info.
