Whats the latest version of IE 7 for XP meant to be
with updates??

Because on here, iexplore.exe says:

7.0.6000.20733

BUT, on the other PC it says

7.0.6000.16608

But AFAIK, both have exactly the same patches/updates.

So, how could this version be different to the other PC's version?

Both show 7.0.5730.13 in IE under help / about IE.

Fully patched machine - no BETA/Pre-Release patches (like SP3-RC2...)

On Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008 I believe it is:
7.0.6001.18000

So the question I have is what version of Windows XP do you have?

Start button --> RUN --> type in:

winver

--> click OK.

The top graphic will tell you "Windows XP" version as in "Professional",
"Home", "Media Center", "Tablet PC" or "x64"...

The "Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_spx_gdr.######-#### : Service Pack x)"
line will give you the specific number/service pack information...

What do both of those things say?

On this PC, I slipstreamed XP SP2, IE 7 and updates and WMP 11 and its
updates.

Dont know if that makes any diff

On this it says sp2.qfe (not gdr) 070227-2300 SP2

The other PC says exactly the same

I havent installed any SP3 RC versions yet. I wont be installing that until
the RTM comes out

But in reality - I don't think it matters that much as long as you are

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general or
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser newsgroup AFAIK.

For IE7 running fully patched in WinXP SP2, C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE <=this file should be v7.0.6000.16608 (as of 05:32
UTC, 07 Apr-08). Expect a critical security update for IE to be released on
08 Apr-08 that will give you a slighty higher version; cf.

I deleted it which is why its not there now

I didnt know the inetexplorer.ie6 NG, was there till now

1. Uninstall "Windows Internet Explorer 7" (which automatically returns you
to IE6) EXACTLY per http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html [Only use the
Command %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe if you cannot uninstall via
Add/Remove Programs!]

2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable.

3. Reinstall IE7 EXACTLY per
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install <= Steps #1-8, #10 &
#11; take note of #12, then STOP!

NB: Use http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

4. IMMEDIATELY go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any

What "internetexplorer" newsgroup? You've not posted in
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general or
