First, please lose the all caps. That's shouting on the Internet.
Second, only you know what graphics card is installed on your system, unless
it only has onboard graphics. You need to look through the documentation
which came with your computer.

Just because a computer is "new" doesn't mean it is fully equipped. You
need to determine what the specifications are of your system, and then
compare that to the system requirements before making game purchases.

Hi Misspain,

New computers are not usually bundled with high end video cards
that games such as SIMS 2 require, in fact, they don't come with
video cards at all, just a set of chips on the main motherboard.

For the list of graphic cards supported by SIMS 2:
http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=21

Here's a couple of ways to identify which video card you
have installed on your computer.

1. Click Start / Run / type: dxdiag
Click the Display Tab
Look under Device for the name and manufacturer

2. Click Start / (Settings) Control Panel
Click Display
Click the Settings Tab
Click the Advanced... button
Click the Adapter Tab

have the same prob as missspain2004 with Sims 2 & windows xp. this really
sux, paid $50 plus tax for a game that doesn't run properly. i checked my
specs with Sims 2 system requirements (RAM, free space, direct x 9.0) and
thought i was in good shape to run this game. i don't want to upgrade my
video card, spending more on top of the $50 i already spent, to run 1 game.
if this was for "serious gamers" and if there was an indication that a
updated video card might be needed somewhere on the OUTSIDE OF THE SIMS 2
GAME BOX, i wouldn't have bought it. i got sooo ripped off.

missspain 2004, i posted a response here as i am having the same problems
with sims 2 as you are. sims 2 really sux, mine freezes for about 40 seconds
when scenery changes from night to day, and if i play longer than 1 hour i
get screen freezes. not to mention the choppy game play - oh yeah, EAgames
suggest we probably have an outdated video card. funny, all my other pc
games run fine. we got ripped off.

I have "several" computers in our home, about eight or nine, actually, and
there's only one which exceeds the requirements for Sims2. It is a very
demanding game, which is why my 12-year-old daughter will just have to wait
before we buy it.

You must look at it this way, even if you have a new computer, unless
specifically built for gaming, especially if you have integrated graphics on
the mobo, then you probably will have difficulty playing ant graphically
intese game made in the last year. If you wish to play games being released
in the last year or in the future, you must upgrade your video card.
