Simple Windows Explorer Question

Hi,
This maybe a real stupid question concerning WindoweXP explorer - BUT I will
ask. Why when I open up Windows Explorer on my XP machine do I not get
information like how many files on the disk, disk space used (and left). On
my Windows 98SE computer I have this info showing on the bottom of the
window. I sure would be nice when I put in a Zip disk that I know how much
room is left to store more photos. Anyway, I am sure someone must be able to
answer this question. There are many things I do like about Windows XP, but
then there are a few things I think that are pretty stupid and and cannot be
changed or set up with ease.

This one is simple once you know what it's called...click 'View', check the
'Status Bar' box.

Occasionally it can disappear for some reason, even if you have the options
set to remember settings.

Hi Dan

I think you're talking about the Status Bar, which is disabled by
default in XP Explorer for some senseless reason.

To get it back, simply click "Status Bar" in Explorer's View menu.

Well.. Like ....Dahhhhhhhh. Now that was simple. Thanks a lot Gary.

Yes I have found that my Windows XP can be pretty "brain dead" at times. On
my Win98SE computer when I download photos off the newsgroups, I can choose
a directory and save them there. The next time that directory would come up
again for me to put more photos in. My XP machine brings me right to the "My
Documents and Settings" directory every time. And when I think I have
changed that, back it goes to the Docs directory.

I think that would have to do with your newsgroup client. You might
check out Mozilla Thunderbird (www.mozilla.org/thunderbird) or Forte
Agent/Free Agent (www.forteinc.com/agent). In Agent (not sure whether
this is activated in Free Agent) you can configure a directory for
attachments for each group if you want.
