I usually have my display set up as 2 19" widescreen monitors set on a single
span display of 2880x900.
I would like to have a simple, 1 button switch to separate that display to 2
separate 1440x900 displays for some games and dvd's
Then back to the span display

Im running Windows XP Pro SP2
eVGA GeForce 7800GT

I believe its an option of your Nvidea control panel/settings

I was going to suggest that earlier, but the OP wants a quick way to do it.
The Nvidia control panel is a bit clunky. I'm sure you can do resolution
from the taskbar app, but not dual>single monitor and back with one click.

Maybe it's possible to set up a desktop profile in the Nvidia control panel,
nView or whatever. I haven't used these features, but it may be possible.

You will have to use a third party tool to accomplish this. Some of
these third party tools are scriptable, they can be used in batch files,
then all you need to do to toggle the resolution is double click on a
batch file icon on your desktop. Maybe the following can do what you want:

MultiRes 1.58
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/multires.shtm

reschangecon.exe
http://www.12noon.com/reschange.htm

Other than that read up on your video card software and see if it is
scriptable.

Does it not have Keybd Shortcuts?

Thank you. These are both very good programs John John. However, they wont
let me change the display configuration from 2 displays running 1440x900 to 1
display at 2880x900, or vice-versa.

I tried creating profiles in the nVidia display properties tool, but they
are not clickable, they must be loaded from the utility, making that route
useless (unless something is wrong with my configuration).

Thank you for the responses here, I will keep fiddling and report back if i
get it working like i want it to.

Using the control panel it would take about 6 clicks, I just counted myself.

For videos playback I could recommend Zoom Player, as this has an option to
blank the second screen when playing a video full screen, but unfortunately
the DVD version isn't free, only the standard edition.

Most games will only play on the primary display anyway, maybe the off
switch on the second monitor could be the simplest solution.
