I know that it is a simple question and in years gone by I would not have
needed to seek help.

I have an ADSL modem connected via one port of a four port hub (USB 1.1)
which has a fault causing the modem to receive a reduced voltage and affects
its performance. Diagnosed by BT Engineer.

I want to remove the hub and go directly into the USB socket.

If I disconnect the hub and uninstall the hub using the hardware device
manager and then reboot will I be able to just plug the modem lead and it
will all work as before? Or do I have to uninstall the modem and re-install
from scratch?

Kindly email advice to me at (e-mail address removed)

Thank you

Ray

You will almost certainly have to uninstall the modem as well.

Most USB modems require you to start the installation and then plug the
modem in during the installation so that the correct configuration with your
ISP can be established before the installation completes. If you already
have the drivers etc installed this will not happen.

It is a very easy process anyway and only takes a couple of mins and you
will have a greater chance of success than trying to repair something that
may not be working.

Don't forget, the modem software should be uninstalled when it is connected
and powered on. Do not uninstall it when it is disconnected.

Seeems a strange way I know....

Thank you for the advice.
