Silicon SIL0680 Configuration tool reports error. I don't see it...

Hello,

I'm running two mirrored RAID Sets on our Server. Today, the SilCfg
Tool send me an e-mail, stating the one harddisc from set 0 was
dropped from the RAID. I inspected the status log of the configuration
tool, but I find it inconclusive.

It states, that the slave drive on set 0 has been dropped, due to
"SMART Status: Exceeded" (so it says in the logfile) or "SMART
Information: Status Threshold exceeded" how it is called in the
software itself. But, the "Secondary Slave Device Information" states
that SMART is well and the drive is healthy.

What does that mean? Do I have to replace HDD?

Many thanks for answers in advance!

Regards,
Mike Dasberg

Same thing happened to me today. Is the controller going bad or is it
one of the drives??? I will run diagnostics when rebuild is finished.

Hi,
Same thing happened to me today. Is the controller going bad or is it
one of the drives??? I will run diagnostics when rebuild is finished.

I've put the drive back into the RAID Array. The Array rebuild without
errors, and until now everything works fine.

Still, I would like to know *why* the drive was dropped from the RAID
Array. Any clues on your side?

Regards,
Mike

That does mean that you have to get more information. Use a SMART
monitoring tool to look at the individual SMART state of your disks.
Personally I use the smartmontools, for other tools look around
this group, it is a frequently discussed topic.

Since the drive was dropped from the array sometheing is clearly
wrong and you should find out what it is. It is not necessarily the
disk or even the controller. Could also be the PSU or other things.
Could be that the disk temporarily exceeded a non-critical attribute.

When you have the detailled SMART attribute listung for all disks
you can tell more. You can also post them here for more advice.
