I've got epox 8rda3+ mainboard with integrated 2-port sata 3112 sil
controller. I use newest driver on winxp sp2 (1.0.0.52). Sata hdd is a
brand new 120GB WD. Problem: system freezes some time for 1-2 minutes,
then resumes. It's caused by sata - on pata hdd there's no such problem.
What to do?

Check that both ends of SATA cable have clean contacts and
are physically oriented well, making good connections.

See if controller is charing IRQ in Device Manager.

Assess the other devices plugged into PCI bus, try
temporarily disabling any other devices to see if that makes
a difference. For example, sound, network adapter.

Try raising PCI latency in bios, if default is 32, try
64-96. Try raising latency of the controller itself and
lowering latency of video with a tool like,
