Silent log on??

Is there a way to silently log on using either "Windows Messenger" or "MSN
Messenger".

Now that I have several contacts in my list, everytime I log on, everybody
wants to start talking to me. This is impossible and the end result is that
I don't start up messenger at all.

Does anyone have any solutions?

Unfortunately no, there is no way to sign into Messenger as 'Appear Offline'. There are some
"patches" around that let you do this, but they have some bad side effects (and can have the
effect of messing up your contact list).
