Silent Computer - Onwards and Upwards

a lot of times it is enough to put a Cpu fan to min.5V, if it is a
powerful one maybe @ 7V; @5V you do not hear it ...

Be aware that often a fan will appear to work at first down to 5V but will
fail soon after. If you really have to go below 7V you should be starting
with a quieter fan.

yes, has to be verified, if starts even lower than 5V, so to be sure,
if they can start reliably there when getting older, weared out &
dusty....
(mine all starts @ 3V exept NB one, which needs min.7V & even
there does not always reliable starts since it was bad even when I got
it & its 5y old & very weared out, but there is a solution of that
particular problem I made & will be published after hollidays on my
site!)

As soon as I got my computer silenced, the ear noises went.

Glad to hear that moving the computer out fixes the noise-in-ear
problem. If my problem was easy to solve as yours, I would be willing
to spend a lot of money to move the computer out. Oh well... I guess I
don't have such a luck.
Manganese pottassium deficiency can cause ear noises...

I don't think it was the cause of my problem because I took vitamin
supplement everyday.
When I wrote about he cupboard idea I tried. I should have mentioned
that the noise which wasn't loud before, did halve in volume. It's a
little cupboard, about 2ft high that fits under the desk below my
chair.

I doubt cupboard is dense enough to absorb the noise. That's the
reason why I suggested MDF in my previous post. MDF is very heavy and
dense. I used it build an air cleaner, and I find it to be easy to
work with.
I thought you said you tried a KVM extender. They are still very
expensive, but if you've already got one, it's not a problem ;)
The PS2 KVM extenders today extend with an ethernet cable
between transmitter and receiver.
Maybe an ethernet cable carries the signal better and if a
PS2 KVM gave a washed out screen, then it would get a bad review.

Yes, I tried a KVM extender (I still have it in my basement). Yours
sounds like the very expensive one that I mentioned in my last post,
and is completely different from what I tried years ago. This explains
the reason why you got good video signal. This is very encouraging.
Actually, I heard good result from people who had tried this type of
KVM extender. At that time, it was totally beyond my budget. Where did
you get yours and around how much?

Nice to talk with you and have a happy holiday.

I haven't actual got a KVM. I've got a USB extender, which i just
realised
I may have been mistakenly calling a kvm. It was really cheap.

http://www.nti1.co.uk/usbc5.html £135 so it's about $220

All I use that for is extending my usb HP printer.
(I don't trust usb mouse+keyb)

My keyb and mouse are extended with belkin ps2 extenders(like
boosters)+long ps2 cables.

My monitor is extended with a 50m vga extension cable which i got from
2ndchancepc.co.uk you could try those links i mentioned, they may
be good, like bettercables or cablestogo

Happy new year.

I have just checked their list of video cables. Yours must be the most
expensive one in their list. From looking at their price, their cables
must be at least 3 times as good as what I tried couple years ago
because they are three times as expensive. I guess this is "we got
what we paid for".

Thanks for the link.
