I have seen one of my contacts sign in to messenger twice within a couple of
seconds.. it's as if the same user is on twice. How is that possible?

Greetings,

If you sign on, then sign off and back on, you can create the same effect. Sometimes people
do this (even more than once!) simply to "advertise" their display name.

There's also some third-party tools around that allow you to do the same thing in rapid
succession.

lol at the advertising bit...
anyway, i think the APPEAR OFFLINE thing also be a reason... someone could be using that...

Hi,

Yes, quite true, there's a few different things you can do to cause this. Appearing Offline
is one way, but another popular way (and this is a way to "target" a specific contact) is to
simply block and unblock (repeatedly) a contact and they'll be flooded with "X has just
signed in" messages.

Could this involve a 2nd networked computer? I don't know what *type* third
party things you are referring to. Maybe if you could give me an indication
of the type if you can't say a name of the software so that I could check on
that too.
