Signatures stay February 18th

M

Mike

They are actually March 8th now with a remove/delete
folder then reinstall but they still do not update.
My daughter had problems with her computer brought it over
I hooked it to my router installed Anti-Spyware and it can
get the updated signatures just fine and she too is W2K
SP4. So now we rule out the router I guess.
All of my winsock LSP issued now fixed. Clean as a whistle.
So now a manual update of sigs still doesn't work and auto
update doesn't work either.

Is Microsoft Antispyware installed in the default location? i.e. %program
files%\Microsoft Antispyware ?

Is this XP Home, or XP Pro? You've probably mentioned this before--sorry,
but I'm not recalling.

We've had a number of installation type issues where apparently there were
permissions issues when the app was installed under Program Files--I'm not
remembering details, but the installation either failed, or didn't work
correctly.

Your symptom is much more subtle than those cases, but it might be worth
trying an installation in a non-standard location--say, c:\MSAS to see
whether it behaved differently.

I think we tried deleting all the temporary files already? (I haven't
investigated this to understand it well, but I understand that the
definition files exist as temporary files as well as the files in the
installation directory at various times.)

It seems like this must be a permissions issue of some sort--the program is
unable to replace the existing definition files in the installation
directory for some reason. It is strange, though that you, the logged in
user, can easily do this yourself.

Is this XP Home, or XP Pro? You've probably mentioned this before--sorry,
but I'm not recalling.

We've had a number of installation type issues where apparently there were
permissions issues when the app was installed under Program Files--I'm not
remembering details, but the installation either failed, or didn't work

Your symptom is much more subtle than those cases, but
it
might be worth
trying an installation in a non-standard location--say, c:\MSAS to see
whether it behaved differently.

I think we tried deleting all the temporary files already? (I haven't

I was hoping something we did might have fixed the issue.

I don't have further ideas, at this point. A new build might help, but I'm
not sure it would--there seems to be something about your system--presumably
permissions on the installation folder, that makes this symptom persist
across multiple attempts to fix it.
