Signature

I have a user that is requesting a 'digital signature' so she does not have
to print out a document in order to sign it.
In the past a signature has been scanned to a .BMP or .JPG file for
inserting it as a picture.

Does anyone have any suggestions or warnings about such a practice?

Hi David-

First, make the distinction between a digital signature and a _digitized_
signature.

The latter is an image of someone's John Hancock basically as you describe
it, which can also be inserted as AutoText. That is something that many do
warn against because _any_ recipient can do with it what they wish.

A Digital Signature, OTOH, is an electronic 'stamping' of the document which
testifies to its authenticity & is automatically removed if the doc is
modified/saved by anyone... including the originator. Meaningful ones are
available through companies such as Verisign at a price. Less formal digital
signatures can be created using selfcert.exe in MS Office.
